Common questions

Honest answers,
before you ask.

A few of the questions that come up most often — about the sensation, the timing, and what to expect from your first session.

Does microneedling hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as mild pressure or a slight tingling rather than pain. A topical numbing cream is always applied beforehand, so by the time the treatment begins the skin is comfortable. Sensitive areas like the forehead may feel slightly more intense; the numbing cream handles this well.

How many sessions will I need?

For general skin quality and hydration, many clients see a noticeable improvement after just one session. For acne scars or deeper concerns, a course of three to six sessions spaced four weeks apart is typically recommended. During your consultation, Lakem will give you a personalised plan based on your skin.

What is the downtime?

Minimal. Most clients experience redness and mild sensitivity for 24 to 48 hours, similar to a light sunburn. You can return to work the next day. Heavy exercise, saunas, and direct sun exposure are best avoided for 48 hours after treatment.

Is it safe for all skin types?

Microneedling is suitable for most skin types and tones. It is not recommended during an active acne breakout, a skin infection, pregnancy, or while taking certain medications such as blood thinners or Roaccutane. Lakem reviews your full medical history before every session to confirm it is safe for you.

What should I do after my treatment?

For the first 24 hours, keep the skin clean and avoid touching the face. Apply the aftercare products provided and stay out of direct sunlight. From day two, a gentle SPF moisturiser is your best friend. Avoid retinoids, AHAs, and exfoliants for one week.

When can I wear makeup?

Wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup, to allow the micro-channels to close and to reduce the risk of irritation. After 24 hours, mineral foundation is a good first option. By day two or three, most clients return to their normal routine comfortably.
